Behind the Bag: How Bright Side Crisps Are Made

Behind the Bag: How Bright Side Crisps Are Made

From a farm in Texas to the crunch in your hand — here's exactly what goes into every bag of Bright Side Crisps.

Lee Haverman

Every bag of Bright Side Crisps starts the same way: with produce that almost didn't make it. Vegetables that were grown with care, harvested at the right time, and then rejected — not for being bad, but for being imperfect. Too big. Too small. Slightly the wrong shape. Surplus to what the market needed that week.

We source those vegetables. And then we get to work.

Step One: Sourcing

We work directly with farms and distributors to identify surplus and cosmetically imperfect produce before it gets discarded. This isn't random. We have relationships built around consistency and quality — because the snack is only as good as what goes into it, and we're not willing to compromise on that just because the ingredient would've been thrown away otherwise.

The produce we source is nutritionally identical to what you'd find at a grocery store or farmers market. It just doesn't look the part. That's exactly why it ends up with us.

Step Two: Processing

Once we have the produce, it gets cleaned, prepared, and sliced. Then comes the oil — just enough to help it crisp up evenly — and then heat. That's the entire process. No additives. No flavor enhancers. No preservatives. No steps that require a chemistry degree to understand.

The goal is to let the natural flavor of the produce come through — which sounds simple, but actually requires getting a lot of details exactly right. Temperature. Timing. Thickness. Every variable affects the final crunch, and we've spent a lot of time dialing each one in.

Step Three: Into the Bag

From there, the crisps get packaged and sealed. The bag is designed to keep them crisp and fresh without the artificial preservatives most snack brands rely on to extend shelf life. It took us a while to get the packaging right without compromising on ingredients. We did.

From Our Kitchen to Yours

What started as a test lab in our home kitchen — burned batches, late nights, friends recruited as unwilling taste testers — is now on the shelves of H-E-B and shipping directly to doors across the country. The process has scaled. The ingredient list has not. Still two. Still the same ones we started with. That's the part we're most proud of.
